The Medical Board of CA (the entity that oversees medical assisting practice) only recognizes 5 certifying bodies for medical assistants, which can be found at this link, in the middle of the webpage: Medical Board of CA Medical Assisting
Of those 5 certifying bodies that the Medical Board recognizes, an SRJC MA program graduate is eligible to sit for the following 2 certification exams:
- STATE: California Certifying Board for Medical Assistants (CCBMA)
- NATIONAL: American Medical Technologists (AMT)
Getting certified after the program is optional, but most health care employers in Sonoma County prefer it.
For details on the CCBMA exam, click here: CCBMA
For details on the AMT exam, click here: AMT
**Please note** SRJC's MA program does *not* qualify the student to sit for the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) exam, or the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA) exam, or the Multiskilled Medical Certification Institute (MMCI) exam.
